Removal of heavy metals from wastewater from electro-polishing

The problem-Electro-polishing is an electrochemical process, which is performed in a bath of acidic electrolyte. The energy is provided by a rectifier. The metal piece is connected to the positive terminal (anode) and the negative terminal is attached to an auxiliary electrode (cathode). During this process, a layer of some 20 micron is removed and the wash water contains high concentrations of heavy metals. Its discharge to the municipal sewer is forbidden.

  • Efficient disposal of most heavy metals including nickel and chromium.

The process is based on the use of sodium aluminate (or potassium aluminate) which allows efficient removal of the suspended solids (TSS) and fats while neutralizing the acidic effluent. The effluents obtained in the process comply with regulations and sometimes even more than that. The removal of fats is up to a level that cannot be measured by conventional methods.
S² has participated in a number of experimental projects that have been defined as successful in the areas of saline and sewage treatment containing blood.
Moreover, the company has improved the performance of existing facilities without the need to purchase new ones.
In most cases the application was immediate and effective.

Advantages of the process:

The cost of the treatment is significantly lower than the cost of the "competing" treatment with the help of alum and caustic soda, while reducing the amount of salts added for the treatment.
Improving the quality of saline treatment from the training processes, with the help of sodium aluminate, it is possible to evacuate saline to the sea.

Food industry

S² implements the use of sodium / potassium aluminate in facilities for the treatment of industrial wastewater, such as: meat processing, salads, prepared food services, the French fries industry and the confectionery industry. With the help of the treatment, effective removal of suspended solids and fats can be achieved, thus complying with regulations for the discharge of industrial effluents. S² has the ability to improve the operation of existing facilities by running experiments in the factory area, upgrading equipment, training and accompanying the operators.

Technology for the treatment of dairy and pig effluents

Dairy effluents are an ecological nuisance and cause unreasonable loads in sewage treatment plants, the technologies developed in Israel and around the world so far have not provided a reasonable solution. The process developed by S חברת allows the treatment of sewage from the milking parlor and the waiting yard in cowsheds and pigs' sewage.

The process eliminates:

  • Floating solids (TSS) up to the required level of 90%
  • COD of 60% suspended matter
  • Phosphorus up to the required level 90%

Sewage treated up to this level can be discharged into the sewer and continued treatment at the municipal sewage facility.
In 2007, S² set up a first-of-its-kind facility (β site) which was operated in a large barn (over 300 cows) and treated the effluent from the milking parlor and the waiting yard.
The solution is known and encouraged by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Water Authority. The facility has a permit for discharge into the sewer and absorption in the sewage treatment plant.
The cost of treating sewage (chemicals and electricity) is reasonable, thus avoiding the closure of the barn.
The company works in collaboration with companies that provide physico-chemical treatment facilities in order to optimize the costs of chemicals.

Accompaniment and advice - a plant for the absorption of organic and mineral effluents

The plant has operated two separate treatment lines for organic and mineral effluents, effluents with variable composition that arrive at the plant in tankers. The plant was facing a tender for continued operation, when the facility failed to meet the quantities of sewage required for treatment.
Under the guidance and direction of the company, lines were moved and the system was upgraded (all the equipment of the upgrade was located in the factory area) and the capacity of the factory increased and even increased the demand for care.
